Robot Voice

I'm looking for a program in which you can input text, and the computer reads it, but I want to be able to choose the voice as robotic.
I have tried some freeware programs from download.com, but nothing is what I'm looking for.
Anyone got any tips?

Maybe you can get this by combining a Steven Hawking style text-to-speech synthesizer with a vocoder. The tts will give you the funny/unnatural intonations, and the vocoder will give you the metallic robot sound. That's how I would approach it. I don't have time now, but I'll throw up a demo of this technique later. Maybe there's a special tts/vocoder combo already out there that does this?

Yea try http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

vocoder would definitely be the best way to go..... Ableton 8's vocoder would be the best one because it does a really cool effect with pitch tracking.

Exactly what I had in mind! I was even thinking of a less natural sounding TTS, like Speak_n-Spell style, because AT&T's is quite advanced. But after vocoding I guess you wouldn't notice the difference. You can vocode your own voice and still come out sounding robotic.

That's sort of what I had in mind, but I was thinking more Darker metallic evil robot voice. But I guess that can be done with darker octaves and a bit of fiddeling. I totally missed the part that you could use a vocoder for robot voices. I'm gonna see what I can come up with my microkorgs vocoder.
The website with the text to speech was great tho, Easy and simple.

Thought was appropriate for this thread.
