ES & ESX comp 2- Bilitis

Postby Unfolding Machines on Sat Jul 16, 2011 7:23 pm

So here's the 2nd battle of 2011 (already!):

The song:
Grails- Daughters of Bilitis which is based on this Francis Lai composition.

The drums:
Cold Grits- Its Your Thing
^seeing Box.net can't play WAVs, check out the break (ending at 18 seconds) here.

Only use the supplied samples in your ES or ESX. Post your results by Sunday the 7th of August. Good luck!
____________
edit: thanks to HS for pointing out that that the Box links were duds- now fixed

ESX -> Stereo Compressor -> Mixer with 3 Band EQ. 2 Patterns, Live recording.

Note, at beginning of tune, I played the sample i used for the base at 'normal' levels to show I didn't 'cheat' and sample the bass from somewhere else. :)

To view the player you must have Javascript turned on and have Flash Player 9 or better installed.

Whoah! The standard's set! Good work Hseiken!

Contributing: I'll Show You My Favourite Finger. But now I'm not so confident of the start of my track. May re-record it soon, posting it now because I may get lazy with this track.

Here is my entry:

Here is a (long) YouTube video showing how each sound was hand-crafted from the original two sources:

Here is a video of the actual performance that was recorded for the entry:

Here is the .esx file for my entry, so you can load it onto a card and remix it, if you wish:

Description from SoundCloud:

"This is my entry for the ESX production contest on the Electribe forum. Only two samples were allowed: the drums from "It's Your Thing" by Cold Grits, and "Daughters of Bilitis" by Grails. Although it is hard to tell, every single sound you hear -synths, drums, loops, everything- were hand-created from these two samples, inside the Korg ESX. No other gear or software was used except Audacity, only to trim the original samples and make them mono instead of stereo. Enjoy, and if you get a chance, register at the forum and vote! :)"
