I use the outs for external FX. In fact, I have the ins and outs hooked up to a Behringer PX-3000 audio patch bay, so I can change stuff around without too much pain. You wouldn't need that many outs if you don't use external FX. And as Blue mentioned, if you overdub, you won't need too many ins either.

Can you recommend one....or at least just point in the direction of some? I'm still not sure what to get, but this solution sounds great..

uuuuh well depends on how much you want to spend.... zero 4 is an obvious champ... but it's pricey.

As far as recommendation, I have never used one so I can't really recommend one.

But this seems like a good solution:

still waiting for my zero 4, but when they drop below $500 on the bay, that's pretty much bang for the buck..especially since, from what I've read, heard, and seen of it, the zero's are so packed with clever things that it almost becomes an instrument in itself: you can end up tweaking this mixer more than your synths live ;)
I'm recieving mine probably this week, but I can almost forget about using it until after newyears (damn important stuffs in life..)
