Dehli Dub (Floormix) - more dub/techno in progress

Postby TrondC on Mon Mar 08, 2010 1:03 am

mixing the 4x4 beats of my former tracks with the Dub sound I so love. this one I had to give up on at some point. No idea how to make this better, any tips are really appreciated :)

Machinedrum for drums and some chord samples
Monomachine for simple sine bass and sustaining chords and div fx
acidlab for synthesizing ochestral choir sounds and el-pianos. no, wait, I mean acid. ;)
don't think I even touched the kp3, which is odd since it has some nice dub-delays.

what would you want to change in this?

Very nice vibe. Overall I really like it. After three listens, my overall impression is that you might increase the volume of the pads slightly. It might just be my sound system, but whenever I pay attention they sound like they're fighting to be heard just a bit too much. Also, the claps around the 2:20 mark stand out markedly from the other percussion...you might try balancing them somehow, perhaps with a HP filter if not volume.

Unlike some of the other listeners I don't think the reverb is too overwhelming...if you shorten it, do it just a bit.

Again, all of these might just be my sound system not your production ;) ...really digging it generally.

I would agree! are you compressing the overall mix? because if you are then adding a 1db boots on the pads would make them plop into the overall mix perfectly.
rockin rockin

Ya the pads and also the acid like sound....

I didn't really notice the wonderful toms and hand percussion sounds :-D killer drums

thanx guys :)

the mix itself is probably not that good, since everything is done with my headset. Yes, I am saving up for some monitors, but like everything else in my music-life, it's going to take a while to get the dough...

pads: yeah, they might be too low..

compression: lol, I just recorded the output of my mixer and rendered it right away.. I wouldn't know how to apply compression anyway ;)

and the claps are too high? just on the 2:20 mark or from there on? I notice a problem with all my recent mixes, in that certain mid-freq percussion sounds always stand out much more when played through my cd-player speakers. so, yeah, I am aware of those things. too bad I can't afford speakers since I am likely to do a few small gigs in the near future, I am afraid my mixes will sound horrible on a big system...

thanx for the comments tho, I have something to work on. on the other hand, I also have two other new tracks emerging, + a intro-like dub thing too. guess it's time to pay more attention to each piece rather than to pop out 2-3 half-done pieces per week :D
