White Showcase out!!!! (exclusive demo)

Postby StellarJay[aka Ruso] on Tue Nov 11, 2008 10:47 pm

After long hours staying up, it is finally complete! This is my official demo CD to be sent to record labels. This will hopefully spark my live performances and open up new doors.

I finally had a chance today to sit down and hear what I have created all put together and sat in silence realizing just how much I have grown in my musical abilities even in the last month!

Pardon my crappy mixing, I'm no DJ, I'm a live performance artist and my gear is all over the place right now so I had no choice but to mix it and it went suprizingly well. There are only a couple slips. Anyways on that note.

Track list:
Ruso - Shardelle
Ruso - Kalleida
Ruso - Pseudo Funk
Ruso - Mr Cubensis (exclusive!!!!)
Ruso - Drammamine
Ruso - Misfortune
Ruso - Chrono-Logical
Ruso - Cheburator
Ruso - Conundrum

All were completed this month but one. Enjoy!

Nice. I always enjoy your music Ruso, so today I'll have something new to listen to at work!

EDIT: I'm liking it so far Ruso. Nice drum programming as usual (I'm on the 5th track I think, after Mr. Cubensis). Great d&b and wobble-less drumstep (not a huge fan of the overused wobble).

sounds good! very nice rythms, but to me, even tho the individual tracks work well, it's too much of the same note throughout the gig, at times it feels I've been listening to one long track, and with no variation in the base note, it gets stale.. But don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this very much, but a little more variation around the notes would make this going from a good gig, to a very good gig :) Mr Cubensis fits in very well tho, fun stuff :)

I would definately go to your gig :)

Thanks for comments and for listening. Input is very appreciated and taken into considerations.

I was going to explain why I use same note bass lines or ones with notes that have no harmonic relationship to each other. The reason for this is because the whole song becomes too happy and dandy when you make a harmonic bass line. This makes the track stand out from my style. I prefer to use other elements of the song to bring in the happy tone to the track and only in certain parts of the track. Also another thing I do to keep as unitone as possible is my drums, I don't like to add fills or breaks into them and like to keep them non-changing throughout the song. Both drums and the bass are my background and I try to build the track with the other elements. I know it can be mono-tone but I guess that's the idea behind it. I've tried doing it differently and I didn't like it. I guess it just takes away from my style :-/

Anyways thanks for feedback!

yeha I see, your style is an intersting one too, it's just for me, personally, would like it more with a more traditional approach, i.e. harmonies, etc :) Good to hear you're doing your own thing, that is what makes music evolve, people who stand out from the mainstream! had another listen today, I like this more with each listen, but when hearing all tracks for the first time, it got a little too monotone for my taste. but yeah, I think theese tracks definately can grow on me. It's the same with artist Photek (which you may be familiar with), it took a while to get used to the way he approaches music, but after several listens, I like it more and more :)

I'm also going to give it a second listen today. I really liked the more d&bassy tracks towards the end of the setlist. I was wondering, Ruso, out of curiosty, how much of EMX or ESX is in these tracks? Or is it mostly Ableton, with EMX as controller? Just trying to learn about production and possibilities. Thanks.

Unfortunately, none of it is EMX/ESX. Here's why: my EMX is fried and is in a repair shop right now and I just sold my ESX because anything it can do sample wise can be beat by a long shot exponentially inside ableton. I miss my EMX so much that I'm dropping around 200 bucks to get it fixed.

Anyways like I've said before, electribes are great for what they do. Compared to other grooveboxes they are splendid, however software's sound and dynamics and options are quite superior. The only problem is in live performances, the electribe's interface allows for a very dynamic one, and it's a little bit more challenging in ableton but if you get it right and have the right kind of setup you can definetly compete.

But for example the track Mr Cubensis, can definetly be made on the esx. In fact it would not be too hard to remake it for the ESX. But the reason I dumped the ESX is because it seems as though it eats sample quality on any sample I put on it. :(

hmm I think I just realized why the first half sounds monotone! it's played in the same key, or close to it. Two of the tracks are sister tracks so they were meant to. :)
